I’m Lisa Williams, founder of Mission Built Counsel. For more than thirteen years, I have worked inside complex, mission-driven institutions, helping leaders and boards navigate the legal and operational decisions that shape their organizations.
My experience spans nonprofits and foundations, K–12 and higher education, research organizations, and the public sector. I have built legal and compliance functions from the ground up, led enterprise-wide contracting, strengthened governance and policy frameworks, and advised on employment matters, investigations, privacy and data protection, regulatory compliance, organizational risk, and crisis response.
That work has included managing more than $27 million in annual agreements, negotiating and closing more than 500 contracts a year, and modernizing more than 100 organizational policies. I have also guided organizations through structural transitions, sensitive internal matters, complex partnerships, and legal challenges affecting operations across multiple states.
Those experiences have shaped how I practice. I do not approach legal questions in isolation or default to the most restrictive answer. I work to understand the organization as a whole, distinguish material risks from manageable ones, and give leaders a clear, practical path forward. Through Mission Built Counsel, I bring that judgment to organizations that need sophisticated legal guidance, as an ongoing partner or for a defined project.
Meet Lisa.
